My greens are mixed from blue, yellow, red, and white. I began using a primary palette years ago to learn color, and found that there was no reason not to continue. One big advantage is that the answer the question “how did you mix that color?” is always “red, yellow, and blue.” Here’s what I use:
Titanium White Cad Yellow Lemon (cool / greenish yellow) Cad Yellow Light (warm / orange leaning yellow) Cad Red Light (warm / orange red) Alizarin Crimson (cool / purplish red) Ultramarine Blue (purple blue) Prussian Blue (green blue)
Very Dark Brown / Black is mixed from Alizarin Crimson + Sap Green + a little Prussian blue. This is not necessary, but is helpful for very dark darks. I never use the sap green for mixing greens, just for making this dark brown.
This is gorgeous! Would love to know what the mix for that green is.
Love this site and hope to visit the gallery soon.
